Sleeping in Suburbia
August - December 2022
Sleeping in Suburbia explores an unnoticed and unsourced sense of danger in a quiet suburb.
I photographed as I biked around my neighborhood with friends, strangers, or alone. Mostly, I was just curious to see what I would find. An abandoned bike lying on a floor of leaves, men smoking hookah at an elementary school, a muddy river behind the school.
I took photos of things that interested me: beautifully quiet ordinary happenings.
Despite being in my hometown, I felt like an outsider. So, I relied on people, objects, lights to lead me through this unfamiliarly familiar place, rediscovering this place where I grew up. The
people in the photos seem to have conquered the strangeness of their landscape.
